The lantern is made from a buff stoneware clay. The celadon color is not a genuine celadon which is made from iron but, instead from copper and chrome. I wouldn't have mentioned it if I wasn't proud of it. As with any lantern it gets hot so care should be taken. The lantern looks quite nice with the use of the little electric candles. From previous experience (I test these) this lantern was given a base so to protect from heat on the bottom. Common sense should be used in the use with real candles and incense. The pictures show it used with cone incense. With the sand deposited inside, stick incense can be used also. With stick incense it should be used on a plate or bowl and with the cover upside down to catch ashes. The cover gets quite hot with the use of candles as would be expected. So, if the lantern is used this way, as with any candle, keep combustibles and flammable cats away. A small packet of sand (blasting sand) and an incense cone are included. The cone incense stains the bottom of the cover, but being made of stoneware and glaze the stain scrubs off AFTER COOLING, with warm water or you can leavit. I do. The lantern is 5-1/2" tall and the cover is 5-1/2" wide and weighs 1 lb 1 oz with sand and incense and no package.
