A deep tenmoku brown stoneware cup. It has a coat of tenmoku brown glaze on the outside and a matt rutile, tan liner.
The tenmoku glazes are a standard type used on Japanese ware and popularized the the Leach potters. Its an excelent glaze. There are many recipies for them, but they rarely work perfectly and each potter has to modify them for her/his materials and style. Another recipie to save.
The base was finished with a wiggle wire.
The cup is 4 in tall, 3-1/2 in diameter and 5-1/4 in across the handle. The cup weighs 15-1/4 oz without packing. The cup holds 1 pint. Nice for a good ale.
